I joined Guard because my older brother marched with his saxaphone, and i'm in orchestra, so my instrument can't march. At my brother's high school they have marching dance team, majorettes, and flag team (guard with just flags). We moved, just after he graduated, to Minnesota. they had a guard at my new school, so I went to the clinics in May and it was a blast. So far, our guard has gotten 2 out of 4 caption awards, along with 1 drum major caption, and one first place!

When I was younger every year I went to the county fair parade and when the high school marching band came down the street and the pretty girls with the flags always caught my eye. I didn't know that those girls are called the colorguard. Band camp came around and I was a freshmen. I was a marcher and I played the clarinet. Then I saw the girls with the flags and there I found out those girls was the colorguard. During that marching season the colorguard was the first to caught my eye. During the second semester of my freshmen year I always watch the three bulliten boards in our band hall. One is in the band directors office, the another was is on the guard room door, and the last one is on the wall in between the instrument room. I finally saw a flyer on one of those bullitens saying "interest in colorguard? come to the tryout clinic May 9-13". I went and I had a blast; the veterens even told me that I was good. I tried out and I came out thinking that I made it. The following day the list was on the bulliten board in the band directors office. I looked at the list in disbelief. I didn't made colorguard. I was heart broken. Another season of me marching. I saw the colorguard doing awesome things. Wishing that I was one of them. During the second semester of my sophomore year I saw this flyer saying "interest in colorguard, come to the colorguard session." I went it is was awesome. The girl that was holding it told me to tryout. A month past by, I saw a paper on the piano in the band hall about tryouts for colorguard. I grab one instantly. I went to the clinic and I tried out. I had a blast. I was so nervous the next couple days after tryouts. The list for the colorguard was finally posted up. I looked at the list and I wanted to cry. I made colorguard.
